A Glimpse of Spring from the Kilcullen Photography Club

Well it seems that Spring has arrived! Flowers are trees are beginning to bloom and we have actually seen a rare glimpse of sun on the odd day :)

Our members have been out taking pictures of lambs and other Spring wonders - lambs was our photo project of the month and we have some lovely pictures here of new life.

And it's not just the animal world showing new life, it is wonderful to see buds on the trees and the glorious colour of Spring bulbs and flowers.

Light Painting Workshop with Conor Williams

Last Thursday we had our first proper workshop of the year - a Light Painting Workshop with Conor Williams. Our instructions were to bring tripods and various light sources so we came with all sorts of things - head lamps, fairy lights, even a green cactus light!

Class Portrait by Conor Williams

We began by setting up our tripods and getting our settings right. Basically we needed to have the room in complete darkness and then we used ISO 100 and played around a bit with shutter speed and aperture, so roughly F16-22 and shutter speed from 10 to 20 seconds.
I normally go by aperture priority on my camera settings, it's just what I have become used to, so changing to fully manual was a good learning experience for me.
You can see that we were all fully concentrating and enjoying ourselves :)

We all got slightly different results, depending on angle and individual settings but the photos were amazing, this is such a cool technique and we had various 'models' for the different things Conor tried with the light. We began the class at 8.00 and honestly, the time flew, we were there for over two hours and it was such fun that I don't think any of us even noticed how late it was getting!
We have to say a big thanks to Conor for this workshop, I think we all learnt a lot and had a laugh too and it was hugely enjoyable.
Thanks also to the Bridge Community for kindly allowing us to use their Hall for the evening.

I'll leave you with some pics from the evening:
